Two Amateur Radio Clubs to join forces at Barmoor's Flodden Gate

This tranquil Northumberland park is set to be the subject of stratospheric interest Sunday 12th September, 2010.

To mark the 497th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden, two amateur radio clubs will join forces at Barmoor on Sunday 12th September.  Northumbria Amateur Radio Club and the Border Amateur Radio Society have been granted permission to use a special amateur radio prefix (GB2BCL) for the purpose of commemorating the battle.

On the day there will be two main radio stations operating this special call, GB2BCL, and will be transmitting on most HF frequencies from Barmoor Castle's Flodden gate from around 9.00 a.m. through to 7.00 p.m.

The purpose of this station is to communicate with as many other worldwide amateurs as possible.  This will outline details about the historic battle of Flodden and what significance Barmoor Castle played at that time back in 1513.

A local representative, Ray Evans, from the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) will be present to talk about the RSGB and amateur radio in general.  Ray will also broadcast the national RSGB news from Barmoor Castle starting from 10.30 a.m. and once finished he will invite those amateur's listening to the news to extend their wishes.

Amateur radio is a hobby that continues to support the emergency services during times of disasters.  Barmoor Castle Country Park welcomes visitors and Roy McCluskey (Radio Club Event Manager for the day) can be contacted for more information:
