Adventures at Barmoor 'The Holy Island Trip' Summer 2009
We have been at Barmoor for almost six years, it is an idyllic haven and how lucky we were to find it.
During this time we have had lots of adventures, like the time 'him indoors' said lets cycle to Holy Island (I thought oh if we must and how far is that ?) bearing in mind that he cycles a lot where as I am a fair weather, no wind, no traffic and a bit of a wobbly sort of cyclist !!
However picnic packed, shorts and shades on and off we set, it was a red hot day and downhill most of the way, beautiful views and we took the little quiet roads (not much traffic) this was ok thought I.
We arrived and proceeded to cycle across the causeway (longer than I remembered oh yes we were on 4 wheels the last time!!) We wondered round, took in a bit of culture and sat in a lovely walled garden with coffee and scone enjoying the sunshine, we then watched the tourists arriving in their cars and coaches, thinking how green we were (in the healthy enviromental sense of course ha ha). Then it was back across the causeway to enjoy our picnic and the fun of watching the tide come in and the inevitable 'tourists' getting stuck !!! which they did.
Then it struck me the journey back, once you've come downhill of course you have to back uphill !! This took twice as long as I had to push my bike most of the way, covered in cornflies, even hotter and with 'him indoors' (I wished he was) saying every few minutes"right get back on" (fortunately I was behind him and he couldn't see my face or read my mind!!!) when all I wanted was a cold shower and an even colder large glass of wine. I eventually got both but also could hardle walk for a week and had even more wobbly legs!! (never again)
So if you do plan this trip make sure that you have plenty of chilled wine in the fridge, or better still go in the car!
But also remember that you will be able to chill out and relax when you return to the peace and tranquillity of Barmoor
