Diaries of Barmoor

By Joan Chicken - 13 September 2010

I was inspired to write this poem a few years ago and would like to share my feelings as to why I love this beautiful place.

A Country Retreat
Imagine a place where you'd really like to be
With lush green lawns as far as the eye can see.
A peaceful park that's away from the daily hassle.
Then remember this name, Barmoor Castle.

The castle has grounds in a country setting
With caravans to own but not for subletting.
There are spacious pitches with panoramic views
Of rural farmland and the sea's blue hues.

There, each season comes and brings its very own riches
Frosted snow trees of Winter, surround all the pitches.
Spring brings, in abundance, budding green leaves
And rabbits venture out beneath bushes and trees.

As heralds of Summer's coming , rhododendrons in bloom
Give a resplendent display outside each caravan room.
Long Summer days to relax, enjoying the sun
On the park, or a car ride to seek seaside fun.

Then comes the Autumn and the whole of the park
Evolves a coloured mantle of light shades to dark,
Yellow, orange, red, brown a kaleidoscope together,
There to enjoy in whatever kind of weather.

In Northumberland County this retreat is to be found.
Follow the route to Lowick and you'll see the signs around,
Barmoor Castle Country Park, a place for the discerning.
Only one visit and for a caravan you'll be yearning.
